Placepot Challenge

Day 2

Well I hedged my bets yesterday and went for placepots in Kempton, Southwell, Lingfield and Newbury, with the hope of earning back more than my stake.

Kempton                                               Newbury
6                                                                 6
7                                                                 3,4
6                                                                 14
2                                                                 3
7,2                                                              4
4                                                                 16

Lingfield                                               Southwell
3                                                               8
3                                                               6
3                                                               4
2                                                               9
1                                                               7,3
1                                                               6,2

Total Stake for the day £10.00
Total Returns: £0.00

Closest I came was at Lingfield with 4 wins and a place, so yet again I was short by 1. I never realised how difficult this could be.
I have decided to have a break for a couple of days and study form guides, tipsters and racing journals etc in the hope of snatching a placepot or even better, the Scoop6 on Saturday.
Fingers Crossed.

If anyone is wanting an alternative to the lottery, try the scoop6. The Tote Scoop6 is the main totepool bet each Saturday and you will need to find the winner of each of the 6 selected races to bag the Scoop6 jackpot. The Minimum bet is £2 and you can place your tote scoop6 bets online with totesport, any online betting service or at your local bookmakers.

Racing Virgin sort of

As a child I would take infrequent trips to various local racecourses with my family. This usually occurred around Christmas time or an annual works trip for either parent in the summer. A £1 e/w bet on the National was a given but that was the extent of my interest in Racing. However as I got older my interest grew. This however was probably more to do with the glamour than the actual sport.(trips to various ladies days in Ascot, York, Newcastle etc)
After meeting my partner (a racing obsessed Irishman) the choice was get interested or have a very uncommunicative relationship. So I got involved. Getting up and watching the Morning Line, reading The Racing Post etc. Not too exciting but at least we had something to talk about over breakfast.

On a trip back to Northern Ireland to visit his family we crossed the border to attend Leopardstown Champion Stakes. The buzz from Irish racing was amazing, much more than I had experienced in England.
It was at this point I realised why people enjoy the races so much. It was even more exciting as this time I new some of the horses and some of the jockeys and could understand most of what the other half was talking about.
On return to Blighty I started looking more at the various runners and riders and started concentrating on trying to get the Scoop6. This has so far proved unsuccessful.

Something which has proven successful is the task of finding cheaply priced accommodation for the Cheltenham Festival. It took cutting out tokens and a lot of internet searching of various campsites but I have done it. For the entire festival I will be residing in a wooden wigwam in the middle of March that doesn't even boast its own toilet or shower. But I'm going and that's all that matters.

When the other half said "jump racing gets under your skin and will convert you from a flat ladies day lover" he was right. The excitement of being part of the Cheltenham Roar is growing and its only January.

Placepot Challenge

Day 1 of my place pot challenge...

Carefully looked over the meetings for today's racing an opted to go for Folkestone and Ayr.

Selections for Folkestone:

One Lucky Lady  (win)
Watergate (win)
Only Hope (place)
Quazy de Joie (place)
Malin Head (win)
Alder Mairi

With the first 4 all being mentioned as thereabouts claimants, I opted for a horse in the 5th race that hadn't been mentioned anywhere. At the start of the day Malin Head was 10/1 but something about the horse made me opt for him. At least if he won, not many people would have a stake in the final payout, or so I thought. Through the day the odds began to fall eventually going off at 9/4f. But the place pots would have started before the first race so I was still hopeful for a decent payout.
The came the last race, Alder Mairi trained by Willie Mullins and although a 5/1 shot I again had faith.
However it was not to be, Alder Mairi held up in rear, headway on outside over 3f out, ridden and kept on inside final furlong. It eventually finished 5th.
The place pot only paid out £13.60 so my failure wasn't too costly or heartbreaking.

Selections for Ayr:

Find a key (place)
Blenheim Brook  (place)
Allanard (win)
Gleann Na Ndochais (place)
See the legend
Banoge (place)

As you can see above it was yet again 1 horse that let me down. See the legend went out at 7/1 which was a non mover throughout the day. He tracked the leaders and pushed along after 4 out again finishing 5th.
The place pot paid £325.00 so a little bit more painful than the Folkestone.

Total Stakes: £2.00
Winnings £0.00
