Placepot Challenge

Day 1 of my place pot challenge...

Carefully looked over the meetings for today's racing an opted to go for Folkestone and Ayr.

Selections for Folkestone:

One Lucky Lady  (win)
Watergate (win)
Only Hope (place)
Quazy de Joie (place)
Malin Head (win)
Alder Mairi

With the first 4 all being mentioned as thereabouts claimants, I opted for a horse in the 5th race that hadn't been mentioned anywhere. At the start of the day Malin Head was 10/1 but something about the horse made me opt for him. At least if he won, not many people would have a stake in the final payout, or so I thought. Through the day the odds began to fall eventually going off at 9/4f. But the place pots would have started before the first race so I was still hopeful for a decent payout.
The came the last race, Alder Mairi trained by Willie Mullins and although a 5/1 shot I again had faith.
However it was not to be, Alder Mairi held up in rear, headway on outside over 3f out, ridden and kept on inside final furlong. It eventually finished 5th.
The place pot only paid out £13.60 so my failure wasn't too costly or heartbreaking.

Selections for Ayr:

Find a key (place)
Blenheim Brook  (place)
Allanard (win)
Gleann Na Ndochais (place)
See the legend
Banoge (place)

As you can see above it was yet again 1 horse that let me down. See the legend went out at 7/1 which was a non mover throughout the day. He tracked the leaders and pushed along after 4 out again finishing 5th.
The place pot paid £325.00 so a little bit more painful than the Folkestone.

Total Stakes: £2.00
Winnings £0.00
